Memphis TN, July 28, 2010 – Southwest Tennessee Community College and the BBB have formed a partnership to educate the Southwest community (students, alumni, faculty and staff) on how to make good buying decisions and avoid scams.
“In today’s difficult economy, it’s more important than ever for consumers of all ages to check out businesses before spending their hard-earned dollars,” said Randy Hutchinson, President of the BBB. “We also want to help members of the Southwest community avoid the increasing number of scams that victimize over 30 million Americans every year.”
The BBB will present workshops on identity theft, consumer scams and other topics to students at both of Southwest’s campuses. Southwest’s Career Services Director, Brenda Williams, said, “Southwest is always looking for ways to prepare students to meet the challenges associated with entering the workforce. Partnering with the BBB allows us to do just that by helping students to become more informed consumers.”
“The BBB will also provide articles for the Southwest SCOOP, an online newsletter for faculty and staff,” said Robert Miller, Executive Director of Communications and Marketing for Southwest. Miller also stated that Southwest and the BBB are exploring other opportunities to collaborate in protecting the college’s community from scams and unethical companies.”
